Hi Parents-
Hope y'all have had a great week! I just wanted to send out an email with a few things as we move into another week.
Hi Parents-
Hope y'all have had a great week! I just wanted to send out an email with a few things as we move into another week.
- Conferences: I can't wait to meet with y'all and discuss your child's middle school core class recommendations and their electives. Because the front office closes around 4:45, if your conference is scheduled after that time please come to the door at the end of the 4/5 hallway. I will let you in when it is time for our conference 😊
- Spring Pictures: Don't forget that next Tuesday (April 17th) is our class picture day and when individual spring pictures will be taken. Please make sure that if you plan on purchasing a class picture that you send in your child's payment in the envelope that was sent home last week. Our class is scheduled to have these pictures taken around noon, so our recess time will be moved to right after lunch 😊
- Author's Visit: On April 30th, we will be having Adam Gidwitz at our school to talk about being an author and his new book The Unicorn Rescue Society. In your child's Friday Folder, you will find a flyer (it's white) that also serves as an order form. This is in case you would like to purchase one of his books to have him sign while he is at school.
- Science: The students will have a quiz next Wednesday (April 18th) on the roles organisms hold in an ecosystem (producers, consumers, carnivores, etc). Please make sure that your child is reviewing their notes in their science journal. The students also took their first pop-quiz yesterday, and they did awesome!!!! You will find it in their data section of their daily binder (along with a few other graded assignments).
- Graduation: We will see you on Thursday, June 7th at 10:00 am to celebrate your child's graduation from elementary school! Please go ahead and mark it on your calendar...I will send out more info towards that date.
- Golf-Course Hole Project: On Wednesday, we discussed the basic requirements for their golf course hole project. I also shared with them a few examples that I found online and we discussed the materials that were used to construct it, as well as how they used the materials to relay the theme of the hole. I have shared it with all of the kids through Google Classroom so that they can refer to it as they do their work.

Hi Parents-
I just wanted to end out the week by sending you a quick email with a few things.
I just wanted to end out the week by sending you a quick email with a few things.
- Spring Pictures: Will occur on Tuesday, April 17th. Don't forget that if your kiddo wants a class picture that they will need to have returned the envelope sent home on Monday on or by April 17th. Besides our class picture, your kiddo will also have individual pictures taken for you to decide to purchase when they are sent home.
- Science Pop-Quizzes: As EOG testing season is upon us, I am going to be starting to give some pop-quizzes to check in with what students remember and to guide me with what we need to review prior to the EOGs. I am planning on giving one per week, starting next week! I'm not taking them for a grade, just more of a gauge of where we are and what we need to do before EOGs.
- Environmental Event Mini-Golf Course Project: We are joining Ms. Fowler's class in this annual event! Students have selected an environmental event to research either independently or with a partner. Their research report will be done here at school, but they will need to work on their golf-course hole at home. Their golf-course hole will be due and need to be brought into school on Wednesday, May 9th. The students will be creating a golf course hole that represents their environmental event and the food chains/webs that were disrupted by the event. We are going to talk more on Tuesday about the requirements for their hole, but for your information I'll be telling them that they can only use items that they can find at home (that way you don't have to go out and purchase tons of stuff!). The only thing you may want to purchase would be something solid for the base of their hole (like plywood). I just wanted to make you aware of this project and the due date so that you and I can work with them to create a plan for completing it.
- Conferences: Thank you to those of you who have already signed up for a Middle School Conference! Here is the link in case you haven't yet signed up: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040d44ada9283-spring2
- Yearbooks.... The deadline to customize your 2 free pages in the yearbook has been extended to Sunday, April 8th. Please log in to Tree Ring at the following link to purchase your 2017 - 2018 school yearbook for $16. Last day to purchase yearbooks is April 25th for delivery to school at the end of May.
https://www.treering.com/validate?PassCode=1015052504693078 - Also, I will be out on Monday at a training. I've already told the kiddos and have reiterated to them that I expect them to be on their best behavior for the sub. I would appreciate it greatly if you can also have a quick talk with them 😊
- Finally, thank you soooooo much for the donations of the supplies that I requested! Y'all rock! 😊

Hi Parents-
Just wanted to send out a quick email with a few things as we end this week and get ready for next week.
- THANK YOU to all of our awesome chaperones!!! We had a great time at Old Salem 😊 (Especially at the bakery!!!)
- Report cards: These will come home on Monday. I had some technical issues with PowerSchools as I tried to complete them this week :(
- Middle School Elective Selection: Mrs. Glover will most likely begin pulling kids from our class next week to select their electives for next year in PowerSchools. I'm hoping today to send home a printed copy of the electives for you to review with your child to review and write on. Have your child bring back this paper on Monday. This will make the process go much smoother and hopefully cause less changes needing to be made!
- Conferences: I will send out a sign-up on Monday for you to sign up for a conference. This conference will be where we will review math recommendations for 6th grade and make sure that they have selected the correct electives. Please make sure to sign up for a time that works for both you AND your child.
Ms. Ewalt
Hi Parents-
Hope everyone has had a good week! Just wanted to send you a quick email with a few updates/reminders:
Hope everyone has had a good week! Just wanted to send you a quick email with a few updates/reminders:
- Benchmarks: Next week, your child will take their Quarter 3 Benchmarks. Reading will be on Tuesday, Science on Wednesday, and Math on Thursday. Please note that the science and math benchmarks will be cumulative, meaning that it will have questions on it from all of the topics we have covered so far this year. In science today, we will begin reviewing some of the previous concepts. It might be a good idea for your child to review either the material in the science journal or the videos posted on our class webpage this weekend.
- STEM Night: Next Thursday, March 1st is our STEM Night. A flyer will be in your child's binder tonight with information regarding this event.
- Early Release: Next Friday, March 2nd is an early release day for us (as well as our track out day!!!!). On Monday, I will send out a transportation google form for you to tell me your plans for your child on Friday.
- Middle School Parent Meeting: Don't forget to join Mrs. Heir and Mrs. Glover on Thursday, March 22 from 6:00-7:00 to hear more about transitioning to middle school. They will review recommendations for ELA/Math, selecting electives, etc. I will be attending and will take some notes and send them out to those of you who already have plans on that night.
- Saturday School Make-Up days: Don't forget that we still have three Saturday Schools coming up 😒 Saturday, March 24 is one of them. The other two are in April, and I will remind you of those when we track back in.
- Old Salem Field Trip: Thank you so much for everyone getting in their child's field trip forms! 😊 And thank you to the many volunteers we already have to chaperone this fun trip! There is still time to join us as a chaperone 😊 Just email me and let me know. I will send out more information on our track in day about this field trip.
- Report cards: Quarter 3 Report Cards will go home when we track back in. I will send them home via your child on Thursday, March 29th.
- Conferences: I will need to meet with you and your child in April to review their electives and to also review my recommendations for your child's placement in math and ELA for next year. I'm currently looking at the week of April 16th to begin these conferences. Once we track back in, I will send out a sign-up. Just wanted to give you a heads up!
Hi Parents! It's that time of the year....Middle School Madness is about to begin! 😊
During Quarter 4, we will meet to sign off on your child's middle school electives and discuss their placements for math & ELA for sixth grade. Before we start that fun, Mrs. Glover and Mrs. Heir will be holding a Parent Meeting to discuss the process of picking electives, recommendations for math & ELA, and a general overview of what you can expect as your child moves into middle school. I encourage all of you (even if you have been through moving a child into middle school) to join me at this meeting. It will be held on Thursday, March 22nd from 6:00-7:00pm in the gym.

Hi Parents-
Happy Friday! I just wanted to send out a quick email with a few things.
Ms. Ewalt
Happy Friday! I just wanted to send out a quick email with a few things.
- Old Salem Field Trip Forms--Thank you to those of your who have signed and returned them. I need ALL forms back by next Friday. I have to turn them in to the school nurse to review students with medical needs since we are going off campus for this trip, and they have to be turned in a month in advance. Remember that the date is Wednesday, March 28th...not the 26th as stated on the paperwork. Thank you as well to those of you who have already paid online. Feel free to send in the $47.00 for this field trip at your earliest convenience or pay online.
- Final Human Body Unit test--this will be given next Wednesday. The test will include questions related to unicellular vs. multicellular organisms, human body systems, and genetics. We will review in class Monday and Tuesday to help prepare, and I will have their genetics quiz and human body systems quizzes graded and returned to them on Monday as well.
- Benchmarks--The students will take their Quarter 3 benchmarks during the week of February 26th....I haven't quite planned out which benchmark will be given on which day yet. I will let you know next Friday.
- Human Growth and Development Unit--I know the kids are so glad that today was the last day! They really did a great job in our class lessons. Hopefully they came home and shared with you some of the information we discussed. Today's the big day, as Poe will be sharing the more awkward information for the kiddos.

Hi Parents-
Below are a few important reminders/updates for the upcoming week:
Ms. Ewalt
Below are a few important reminders/updates for the upcoming week:
- Interims: These are coming home today! Please look for it in your child's binder tonight. A few of you will see that your child has no writing grades or social studies grades. The reason for this is that I have not received their final draft of their fractured fairy tale and have not received/graded their social studies test. I did a bunch of grading last night and may not get to put writing, social studies, and a reading quick check in to your child's data section of their binder. Those will definitely be in there on Monday!
- Saturday School: Don't forget that tomorrow is a make up day for us. School will start at its normal time, but will dismiss at 12:45. Lunch will not be served, so please make sure to send a snack in with your child.
- Poe Health Center: Just a reminder that next Friday, Feb. 16th is our in-house Poe Health Center field trip. This is the culminating activity of our Human Growth and Development unit that we will start on Monday. It will start after specials and end around 12:30ish. Again, if you have any questions about what we will be covering next week in our unit, do not hesitate to ask!
- Old Salem Field Trip: We will be going to Old Salem on Wednesday, March 28th! This is an all day field trip, with a ride on a coach bus 😊 We will leave early in the morning, just like the beach trip, but we will return early enough that the students should be able to return home via their normal after school transportation. I will be sending home the field trip forms next week along with an itinerary. The cost of this field trip will be $47, and you can begin paying online at your convenience. I will let you know when I will start collecting money at school. Please let me know if you are interested in chaperoning this trip...we will take as many as we get!!!! No chaperones will be able to ride the bus unfortunately. 😞 Please make sure that if you volunteer to chaperone that you have completed the Wake County Volunteer Registration.

Happy Track Out Day! I just wanted to send out a quick email with a few things as we end quarter 2 and begin our long track out!
- Human Growth & Development: The time is coming for the unit! In your child's binder today, you will find a letter on pink paper explaining when we will be doing the unit and some information about what we will discuss. You will also find the field trip form for our In-House Poe Health Center Field Trip that is an extension of this unit.
- Report Cards: Remember that these will come home upon our return in January. Please review your child's data wall in their binder over track out, as that will give you a good idea of where they stand academically this quarter.
- Next Quarter's Book Club Book: Next quarter, we will be reading a fantasy book that takes place at the Biltmore Estate! Please purchase a copy of Serafina and the Black Cloak by Robert Beatty for your child while we are tracked out. We will begin reading this on our first day back in January!
- Thank you for helping to make our Book Exchange Extravaganza a success today! The kids enjoyed getting a new book to read, and most importantly they enjoyed the yummy snack 😊
I think that is it! Y'all have a great track out and Happy Holidays! See you in the New Year!

Hi Parents-
In last week's "newsletter" (aka my email), I included information on our Book Exchange Extravaganza that will be held in our class on December 1st. I'm resending the information in this email in case you missed it. I have also included a few links to lists of books that are appropriate for 5th graders.
As we get ready to enter the "holiday" season, I would like to invite your child to participate in our Book Exchange Extravaganza on Friday, December 1st (our track out day!). Snacks will be provided as a treat for the kiddos after they exchange books (our wonderful room moms are currently working on the sign-ups). Here is what you (and your child) will need to do before November 30th:
I would like to also invite your child to join me in wearing an Ugly Holiday Sweater if they have one or to dress up festively (reindeer ears, etc).

- Provide a book to be used in the exchange. This book may be a new one you purchase, or a gently used book that your child has read and wants to pass on to a friend. Please make sure that it is grade appropriate. If you would like to donate more than 1 for the exchange feel free! I have a plan for using the extras in our Exchange should we have any 😊

- Let me know if you are unable to send a book in.

Hi Parents-
Hope you all have had a good week! Just wanted to send out a quick email with a few things!
- Parent Ed Night: Interested in how you can help your child at home? Want to learn more about the methods and strategies your child is learning at school? Then our Parent Education Conference next Thursday, November 2nd is just for you! While you attend 2 of our 18 amazing sessions offered by our Morrisville staff, your children who attend MES will be entertained by a funny G rated movie with a snack. Check in begins at 6:00 pm and the sessions run from 6:30 to 7:00 pm and 7:15 to 7:45 pm. To see a list of all of the sessions offered and register for the event, please visit our MES Parent Ed site at https://mpec2017.sched.com/. We hope to see you all there!
- Dress as Your Favorite Book Character is on Tuesday, October 31st! No masks or weapons should be part of the outfit! I'll be dressing up as a character from our Quarter 3 book club book! 😊
- Science Quiz on Wednesday: I know, I know...I'm a mean teacher scheduling a test on the day after Halloween! Right now this is a tentative date...I'm reviewing my lesson plans and it is possible it might be pushed back to Thursday. With that being said, your child should begin studying and getting ready for it! The quiz will be on air masses and weather fronts. We've glued in a few great study aids for them to use at home, and the videos on our class webpage are also great to help with review.
- Interims: These are coming out next Friday! I can't believe it! I'm hoping to have their first writing piece graded, but some students interims might come home without a writing grade because they aren't finished with their Christopher Columbus opinion paper. (Some friends need to finish typing their rough draft this weekend...please ask your child if they are one of those lucky people!).
- Binders: As I was entering some data in your child's binder today, I noticed that a few of them need to clean out the front and back pockets! Please help your child with that this weekend.
- "Storm Chasers" Field Trip: I am still waiting on several students' signed field trip forms. These were sent home last week. Please check your child's binder (specifically the front pocket) to see if there is one waiting for you to sign 😊
- Morrisville's Stampede Giving Campaign: Don't forget to send in your giving card next Friday! It is the last Friday to turn it in!
- Classroom needed supplies/Replenish for your child:
- Big pink erasers (some of our friends are either chewing or cutting the erasers off of all of the new pencils I put out!)
- Scissors--please check with your child to see if they need a new pair (my extras I have had for 5 years have dwindled)
- Skinny dry erase markers (yes we have used up all of the ones we got at the beginning of the year!!!)

Hi Parents-
We've made it through our second week of second quarter! Just wanted to give you some information for next week:
- Next Friday (10/20) is an Early Release Day. I will send out a google form for you to fill out on Monday to let me know how your child is going home.
- Thank you to those of you who have already signed up for a conference! Please let me know ahead of time any specific questions you have that you would like me to address in our conference.
- Also, with conferences, those of you that have signed up for a conference after 4:45...please meet me at the door by our classroom (it's the one that leads from our hallway to the playground). That will be easier for me to let you into the building since the office will be closed and unable to buzz you in.
- On Monday, I will be sending home the Field Trip form for our first field trip! This on will occur on November 16th here at school. Science Made Fun will be coming to our classroom to do their "Storm Chasers" program! There is no cost to you for this field trip, so all you have to do is sign and return the form!
- Make sure to check your child's new Quarter 2 Data Wall tonight, as I have added four quiz grades to it today!
- Don't forget to return your giving card for the MES Stampede to Success Giving Campaign that is running until November 3rd!

Ms. Ewalt
Hi Parents-
We've made it through out first week back! I wanted to send out a quick email with some items for you to know for next week:
- Monday the kids have a quiz on the Water Cycle. We discussed yesterday that they should study the vocabulary, review their water cycle diagram we drew earlier this week, and review the guiding questions that go along with the passage they did for homework on Monday.
- Wednesday is Picture Day! We are currently scheduled for pictures at 11:45. I sent home picture envelopes yesterday, however I was 4 short. Those students who did not get one yesterday had it on their desk this morning.
- Report cards are coming home today! Look for the envelope in their Friday Folder materials in their Daily Binder. Please review it with your child, sign the envelope, and have your child return the envelope to me on Monday.
- Conferences: I will be creating a conference sign up and will plan on sending it out to you either Monday or Tuesday.
- Quarter 1 Data: Please take a moment this weekend to review your child's Quarter 1 data wall one more time this weekend. I have added their Quarter 1 Reading and Math Benchmark scores and the assessments are in there as well for you to review. On Monday, I will be having your child transfer all of the Quarter 1 Data from their Daily Binder to their Data Binder we are keeping in their cubby at this time. This is to make room for all of the Quarter 2 Data!
- Next week is Bullying Prevention week here at Morrisville. You will find a flyer in your child's Friday Folder that tells you what will be happening each day here at school.

Hi Parents-
Happy Track Out day! I can't believe that our first nine weeks are finished already! Below are a few reminders and some information for next quarter that I wanted you to have as we track out.
- Report cards are not coming home today! As a reminder, Wake County changed the dates report cards are to be sent home this year. You will receive your child's First Quarter report card on Friday, October 6th (the Friday of our track in week). If you review your child's individual data wall over track out, you should get a good idea of what your child's grades will be. I am still grading a few things (like their second piece of writing, their Class Dismissed projects, a few retests, a social studies open notes test, and their final states quiz).
- We track back in on Monday, October 2nd!
- Please check with your child over track out about the state of their supplies, especially scissors, colored pencils, and their dry erase markers. If your child is missing any of these items, please try to replace them before we track back in.
- Our book club book for next quarter is Sophia's War by Avi. Ideally, I would like to get us started reading it during our first week, so please try to purchase your child's copy over track out. Please let me know if you will be unable to purchase a copy for your child.
- Field trips have been approved for the year! We will only need chaperones for one field trip, but it is also the most fun one of the year! PLEASE, PLEASE make sure that if you even think you want to be a chaperone that you go ahead and complete the Volunteer Registration through Wake County (this can only be done at school unfortunately). Below are the dates of our field trips for the year.
- "Storm Chasers" by Science Fun For Everyone--November 16 (I will send a field trip permission slip home on our track in day, and there is no cost to you for this field trip!)
- Poe Health Center (Puzzled by Puberty & FITT for Life)--February 16
- Old Salem--March 28 (this is the field trip where we will need chaperones!!!!)
- And, don't forget Fall Festival on Friday, September 29th!!!

Hi Parents-
Happy Friday! Below are a few important items for you to know as we move in to our eighth week of the quarter!!! (Crazy!)
- Science Test: The students will be taking the big common assessment for this quarter's science unit next Friday. We discussed in class that this will cover everything we have discussed this quarter in relation to force & motion as well as physical and chemical changes. Students should be studying what we have done in our science notebooks this quarter as well as reviewing the vocabulary that is in the vocabulary section.
- States Quiz: We will be taking a quiz on Tuesday, Sept. 5th on all of the states/capitals/abbreviations we have studied this quarter! This includes the New England States, Mid-Atlantic States, Upper and Lower Southeastern States. The students should still have their study sheets in their binder and you can also use their quizzes that are in their binder to help them study as well.
- Supplies: Please check with your child about if they are already missing supplies! We have several children who for some reason now no longer have their scissors or colored pencils!
- Next Quarter's Book Club book: Next quarter we will be studying the Revolutionary War. To tie our book club book in with our social studies curriculum, we will be reading Sophia's War by Avi. Just wanted to let you know so that you can go ahead and get it for your child.

Hi Parents-
Happy Friday! I just wanted to send out a quick email with a few things.
Hi Parents-
Happy Friday! I just wanted to send out a quick email with a few things.
- Interims will be sent home on Monday instead of today.
- Science Quiz on Monday: It is related to Newton's Three Laws of Motion. Students will be asked to read scenarios and identify which law is being "illustrated". We did an activity yesterday very similar to the quiz and it is glued in their science journal. This would be great for them to review! Today in class they will also participate in two activities dealing with scenarios to also help them get ready for the quiz on Monday.
- Don't forget to help your child study for their Upper Southeastern States quiz on Monday too!
- Next Friday is this year's first Early Release! Please let me know how your child will be going home by filling out the Early Release Transportation Form.
- We are all covered for eclipse glasses! I so appreciate everyone who emailed and was willing to help out! I will send more specific information about what we will be doing August 21st in regards to the eclipse next week. On Monday, I will also be sending home a form that you will need to sign in order for your child to observe the eclipse.

Hi Parents-
I hope everyone has had a great week! Just a reminder that your child has a quiz on the Mid-Atlantic states on Wednesday. They do have a study sheet inside of their Daily Binder in the Social Studies section that they can use to help them review for this quiz. I have placed their New England quiz in their Data section of their Daily Binder. You will also find in that section two math quizzes (one I put in last week, and one I put in today) and their science quiz they took last Friday. Please review their scores and sign their data wall. Thank you to those who have emailed when they know their child is either leaving early or will be absent. Please also email me if there is a transportation change for your child for the day.
That's all I have this week! Have a great weekend! :)

- Open House: Next Thursday (July 20th) is Open House! Doors will open for you to go to a classroom at 6:00 pm. At 6:15, the MES Welcome Video will begin. Once that video is over, teachers will begin their classroom presentations. The first presentation will run from 6:30-7:00. And if you can't make the first presentation, you can attend a second one from 7:10-7:40.
- AIG Parent Meeting: Parents of current AIG students are invited to attend this meeting. This will take place on the same day as Open House. It is scheduled for 5:15-6:00 pm in the library.
- States & Capitals Quiz on Thursday: This year we are going to be working our way through the United States and working on identifying the state, its capital, and its postal abbreviation. We are starting with the Eastern Seaboard this quarter. The first quiz will be next Thursday on the New England states (just 6 of them). We created a study guide in class yesterday that should be in their Daily Binder that they bring home each night. Spelling will count on this, so please help your child with studying the spelling. I gave them some helpful hints yesterday that I used as a kid when I was learning, so hopefully they were listening to those! We will be reviewing in class each day a little bit leading up to Thursday.
- Science: Students should be bringing their science journal home every night either to complete a homework assignment or to study from. We have been working on Physical and Chemical changes this week. They will have a quiz next Friday on this concept. They should review their notes in their journal and the vocabulary four squares in the back of the journal.
- Class book club: We will begin reading Class Dismissed next Wednesday. Many of your kiddos have brought their copy in to class already, which is awesome! Please make sure that your child has a copy by Wednesday to begin reading. Please also make sure that your child's name is somewhere on their book.
